Southwest to host inaugural TCCAA Soccer Tournament Oct. 25-26
Southwest Tennessee Community College has been selected to host the inaugural Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA), District 7 soccer tournament Oct. 25-26 at St. George’s Independent School in Collierville, Tennessee.
Motlow State enters the tournament as the top seed after finishing the regular season with a record of 6-0 in the TCCAA. They play number four seed Dyersburg State in the first semifinal match at noon Oct. 25. Southwest (4-2 record in the TCCAA) is the number 2 seed and will take on number 3 seed Columbia State in the second semifinal at 3 p.m. the same day.
Southwest, under the direction of second year head coach Brandon Van Cleave, finished the regular season with a 6-7-1 overall record. They are led by sophomore forward Caitlan Dew, the TCCAA’s top scorer with 11 goals and 22 points, and sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Savage, who leads the conference with 103 saves and ranks second with a .786 save percentage and a 1.94 goals against average. Top Lady Saluqi freshmen include forward Juliane Guimaraes Alcantara, the team's second leading scorer with 4 goals, 2 assists and 10 points, forward Thaina Aparecida de Paula, forward Sarah McKinley and center back Anna Trotter, the
heart and soul of the team, according to Van Cleave who scored the game-winning goal against Columbia State which made Southwest the regular season runner-up in the TCCAA.
The semifinal winners will play for the TCCAA tournament championship Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. The champion advances to the NJCAA Central District Tournament Nov. 1-2.
