EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH: Career Services Specialist Cortney Ward
Congratulations to September's Employee of the Month, Career Services Specialist Cortney Ward!
Ward was selected and nominated by his fellow employees because of his positive demeanor, approachability and willingness to assist students. He eagerly helps students who visit the Career Services office with their resumes and interview skills, and secures paid internships that match their career choice.
“I am honored that I was nominated,” Ward said. “I love what I do, so to be recognized is a good feeling. I feel really blessed and lucky to have the career that I’ve got.”
Ward has been with Career Services at Southwest for almost ten years. In addition to his role as a career services counselor, Ward is a paid internship coordinator tasked with building employer partnerships for the College, a job he enthusiastically embraces.
In nominating Ward, Career Services Director Brenda Williams said he is an enthusiastic and inclusive team player who treats everyone he encounters with dignity and respect. “He is a wonderful role model to our students and to our faculty,” Williams said. “His sincerity just comes through. Cortney is always ready and willing to do whatever the team needs – and it’s not always something in his area.”
Williams added that Ward’s tireless efforts to develop and launch a new paid internship program have resulted in students finding internships in their major, and several of them landing full-time jobs. “His professionalism when initiating and building employer partnerships is outstanding,” Williams said.
