SOAR Awards takes second flight
Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) is accepting nominations for the 2020 SOAR Awards. Nominate students, faculty and staff no later than Oct. 7 by submitting an official nomination to Tamiko Alexander, Executive Administrative Assistant at email@example.com.
TBR has added the Partnership Award to the 2020 slate of categories. This new award recognizes a TCAT and a Community College that have demonstrated through evidence, a new and innovative approach of working across sectors to solve a regional or local problem. The nominated partnership can be between more than two institutions.
Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) established the SOAR Awards last fall to recognize excellent students, faculty, staff and a College of the Year. The inaugural winners were announced at the 2019 SOAR Awards event in Nashville last spring.
Southwest achieved distinction with two finalists—Celeste Riley in the student category and faculty finalist Sindy Abadie. Riley graduated in May with an Associate of Science in Education. Abadie is special assistant to the vice president for Academic Affairs and an associate professor of business and legal studies. Abadie also serves as the College’s Achieving the Dream director and co-chair of the Student Success Council.
Awards will be handed out March 24-25 in Nashville at the second annual SOAR awards event.
Southwest will select one finalist in each of the student, faculty and staff categories to submit for the SOAR award consideration. The TBR chancellor nominates the candidate for College of the Year in consultation with members of the system office senior leadership team. Finalists will then be discussed by the senior leadership team with a final recommendation made to the Chancellor. The Partnership Award must be completed individually by the partner organizations via the online application form that includes a letter of support from each institutional president explaining the intent of the partnership and outcomes achieved. The Chancellor, in consultation with members of the system office senior leadership team, will review applications for the Partnership Award and review all evidence and documentation submitted with the application.
Refer to the 2020 SOAR Awards guidebook to review the new eligibility requirements, awards criteria and selection process for all award categories.
