Tujuana Perkins is no stranger to the Southwest family. In addition to being appointed the Southwest Alumni Association president, she is also the immediate past president of the Southwest Student Government Association. A graduate of Kirby High School, Tujuana received a certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling from Southwest in 2009. Currently, she is pursuing an associate's degree with emphasis in Social Work and Psychology.
Tujuana remains active on campus as a member of the Dean's List and Honor Society. She is the mother of three adult daughters and three grandchildren. She enjoys event planning, interior decorating, volunteering in the community and reading in her spare time.
A 2008 graduate, Debra graduated cum laude receiving an A.S. degree with emphasis in Psychology. A 27-year veteran with the state of Tennessee, Debra is a program specialist where she works with individuals with developmental disabilities. She recently enrolled at the University of Memphis where she is majoring in Special Education and plans to one day teach. Prior to serving on the Alumni Association board, Debra was active in the Student Government Association serving as the Satellite Vice President.
Debra's daughter recently graduated from Lane College with a B.S. and is presently enrolled at Southwest in the nursing program.
Debra wants more alumni to get involved and believes the alumni can help build a stronger foundation for the college.
Deneen is currently a Phlebotomist (blood technician) at St. Francis Hospital. She recently graduated from Southwest receiving an A.S. degree with emphasis in General Studies and plans to continue her education to become a Registered Nurse. During her time at Southwest, she was an active member of the Student Government Association and was the Secretary and Sergeant-at-Arms. She also developed the Student Government Pledge and was awarded an Excellence Award for her service to the body. She greatly enjoyed her time at Southwest, and is excited about the potential of the Alumni Association!
The youngest of four children, Tawana is a Brooklyn, New York native who has been in Memphis for 10 years. She has two dogs that she loves like children; Kayne (Pitbull) and Cocoa (Shitzu), and attends Promise Land Christian Church. When she's not at school, she works full time at a Mental Health Facility as a counselor.
Tawana graduated in the Spring of 2009 receiving an A.S. degree with emphasis in Criminal Justice. Prior to serving on the Alumni Association board, she was very active in the Student Government Association and also served on the Student Disciplinary Board, the Cafeteria Board, Traffic Appeals, and several others. Tawana is continuing her education at the University of Memphis and is seeking a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. She recently was accepted as a member of the NAACP.
While still being connected to Southwest Tennessee Community College, Tawana plans to continue to grow with the Alumni Association as a team.
A recent graduate of Southwest, receiving an A.A.S. degree in Office Administration with a concentration in Medical Administrative Assistant and a Computer Software Specialist certificate, Tina has changed her major to Education and is transferring to University of Memphis in the Fall. While at Southwest, Tina was President of the Student Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals, member of Phi Theta Kappa, wrote for the Student Newspaper--The Southwest Source, and loved to volunteer for school activities. She hopes to continue to support Southwest by supporting the Alumni Committee.
She is a Genealogy Editor for Bellaonline, Family History Consultant and enjoys helping people discover their ancestry. She is married and has three kids; her oldest son also just graduated from Southwest with an Automotive degree.
