Tennessee Promise

Music Studio Renovation Fund-Raising Project Planned

Solutions Center Rendering

Everyone knows the City of Memphis has long been recognized as a force within the music industry. Countless recording artists and performers have gotten their start in Memphis and gone on to be recognized both nationally and internationally. But, not everyone knows that Southwest has a vibrant music program with talented performers and artists. What we don't have is a professional recording studio. A professional recording facility will allow the college to tap into the rich tradition and legacy associated with one of the most recognized streets and entertainment districts in the world.

A professional recording facility will allow our students to be exposed to the latest in music technology and production. They will have opportunities to perform in local venues in the downtown Memphis community and regionally. Potential partnerships can be formed with other studios in the Memphis area and around the country to provide additional opportunities in the music industry.

Industry professionals will be invited to conduct workshops and seminars on the latest trends in music technology. In addition to attracting more attention to the college, a recording studio will afford students the opportunity to become more actively involved with the business community through "jingle writing." Student composers will write short tunes to describe businesses and the services they offer. A facility such as this will serve as a destination for many in the community looking for an alternative to traditional music careers. Furthermore, the studio will serve as an opportunity for those who wish to move into the production side of the industry.

The Foundation is currently raising funds to renovate the studio and has a goal of $250,000 to complete this project. If you are interested in donating to this project, please contact Rose Landey at 901-333-4997, or visit the Online Giving page to make a gift. Naming opportunities are available.
