We have had one student self-report testing positive; however, the Shelby County Health Department has not confirmed the case.
As of March 23, 2020, all Southwest classes and services are delivered online until further notice. In addition, all Southwest locations are closed until further notice.
Contact your instructor for details and instructions on attending labs online.
We always encourage you to talk to your instructor when you are having difficulties. In addition, be sure to read the new Achieving Your Dreams online resource guide that will be filled with information to help you navigate and be successful in the online environment.
Chromebooks were distributed March 23-24. Due to the current City of Memphis Safer-at-Home executive order and the closure of Southwest buildings, we are not able to distribute the few remaining Chromebooks. There are many businesses offering free or reduced internet service during this time. Comcast has launched the Internet Essentials program, which allows low-income families who live in a Comcast service area to sign up as new customers to receive 60 days of FREE Internet Essentials service. To enroll in the program, visit internetessentials.com or call (855)846-8376 for English or 855-765-6995 for Spanish. Commencement is postponed until further notice. The College is exploring alternate dates.
At this time, the spring semester schedule has not changed. Final decisions have not been made about extending the spring semester. Many of these decisions involve our accrediting body and state governing board. Once final decisions are made, they will be communicated to the campus community.
For May 2020 graduates, all ETS Proficiency Profile exams will be waived. Major Field exams for Southwest A.A.S. programs remain accessible online through PAWS and are required for graduation. If you require Testing Services assistance, please contact us via email@example.com.
The Testing Center is closed until further notice. Guidance on how to test during this time will be provided by your instructors. The Testing email at firstname.lastname@example.org will be monitored regularly for assistance. Major Field exams will continue to be available for completion via PAWS.

Advising is available online at southwest.tn.edu. Fill out an Online Advising Request Form. If you don’t know who your advisor is, visit the Find My Advisor page. Southwest offers online tutoring through Smarthinking in eight major academic areas. Learn more online: http://www.southwest.tn.edu/asc/online-tutoring.htm. You can continue to do so as long as you are healthy and the affiliated organization where you are serving is open and operating.
We will follow the guidance of the Department of Education, electronic announcement from March 5, 2020 regarding student jobs. Beginning March 16, 2020, the institution will continue to pay current Federal Work Study students wages based on their hourly rate and scheduled hours of work weekly. Ms. Adrianne Fields, Federal Work-Study Coordinator, will be updating the students’ hours in Kronos, using a special code provided by Payroll to ensure all students are paid for scheduled hours. Federal Work Study Supervisors, On & Off-Campus, are not required to take any action during this time.
