The Honors Academy is pleased to announce the first event in the Honors Academy's first Brown Bag Lunch series for 2008-2009. The Honors Academy theme for the year is "Memphis: Legacies of the 1960's," and all of our talks will touch on figures and events from that decade.

S. D. Brandon, docent, Brooks Museum, will speak on "Andy Warhol and the 1960's: 'From A to B and Back Again.'" Mr. Brandon will be discussing Warhol's art, including the social context of his work, and hopes to generate interest in the Warhol exhibit currently showing at the Brooks.

S.D. Brandon was born in Lynchburg, Virginia. He attended high school in Memphis and was graduated from Humes High School, the same as Elvis, though not the same year. He earned Bachelor of Music and a Master of Arts degrees from the University of Memphis. He taught vocal music and library science in the Memphis City Schools for 36 years. He also was tenor soloist and cantor at St. Mary's Cathedral Episcopal for 35 years. He had the honor of being selected Docent of the Year the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art for 2008.

Please help get our Brown Bag Lunch series off to a great start by telling fellow students about the event and by attending yourself. Bring a brown bag lunch. As always, we understand if you come in a little late or need to leave a little early.

This event is free and open to the public. Don’t miss it, invite your friends, and don’t forget your lunch.
