901/333-4368 Dance Works, Inc., Set for Eighth Season at STCC Dance Works, Inc., a classical
ballet company in partnership with Southwest Tennessee Community
College, is in open registration now through September 5. The company is
based in the Fine Arts and
Speech Department on the Union Avenue Campus.
Fall Semester 2000 marks Dance Works, Inc.'s, eighth year at Union Avenue. Karen Zissoff is the executive and artistic director for Dance Works. A native of Toronto, Canada,
Zissoff earned a Bachelor of
Fine Arts degree and a Teaching Certificate at
the Royal Academy of Dance. She has a broad ballet and modern base in
professional and educational studies and has performed with dance
companies here and in Canada. The STCC/Dance Works, Inc.,
partnership is aimed at helping the College extend cultural opportunities
into the community. This innovative program offers graded courses in
classical ballet which follow the Royal Academy of Dancing Syllabi. It is
designed for students whose ages range from four years-old to the college
level. Fall and Spring classes run September through May. The summer
program is held from July through August. Participants for the 2000 Fall
Semester can enroll in Pre-Primary, ages 4-5; Beginner/Primary Ballet,
ages 6-9; Grades I to V and Elementary Classical Ballet, professional
level syllabi; and two Modern Dance levels, ages 10-16. Zissoff noted that in addition
to Dance Works' broad ballet base, the curriculum also includes
Creative Dance, Contemporary Dance, Limbering, Pointe and Character. Guest
artists and musicians are featured by the company in various projects
throughout the academic year. For additional information
