STCC Local Site for National Teleconference: Mental Health Issues and Juvenile Justice

Southwest Tennessee Community College is the local host institution for a nationwide teleconference, Mental Health Issues and Juvenile Justice, which will air from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, April 19, in Farris Auditorium at the Macon Cove Campus, 5983 Macon Cove. This national satellite broadcast is sponsored by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. It is free and open to the public.

Patsy Anderson, director of STCC's Gill Center in Frayser, is site coordinator for the teleconference. She said the broadcast is designed to:

1. Present information about the prevalence of mental health problems among youth in the juvenile justice system.
2. Discuss emerging strategies and useful models for providing effective mental health services.
3. Sharepolicy implications of and recommendations for providing specialized
mental health services.

Anderson advised that attendees to the teleconference should arrive approximately 15 minutes before the broadcast begins. Participants will receive a packet of resource materials and be given instructions on how to respond to certain segments of the session.

A highlight of the teleconference will be an interactive question-and-answer segment with the broadcast presenters and panelists.
At the conclusion of the broadcast, the site coordinator will lead a discussion on what solutions and ideas were offered to address the issue locally.

For additional information, call Patsy Anderson at (901) 333-5970.
