Community College, announced today that six student athletes have accepted
scholarships to play for the Saluqis next season. Coach Martre said the
recruits have the skills that will enhance the Lady Saluqis'
inside-outside approach to playing basketball. A two-time winner of the Tennessee Junior/Community College Athletic
Association's (TJCCAA) Coach of the Year Award, Coach Martre directed her
team to a 22-9 record this season. The Lady Saluqis captured first place
in the TJCCAA Region VII Tournament and earned a trip to the Women's
National Junior College Division I Championship Tournament in Salina,
Kansas. Coach Martre's career record with the Saluqis is 78-59. She is
depending on the recruits to play a vital role in her hopes for another
winning campaign for the 2001-2002 season. The recruits are: Latosha Bailey, 6-2 center, a transfer student from
Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas; Jordan Morgan, 6-0
forward, Millington, TN Central High School; Tenesha Gaither, 5-10
forward, Raleigh-Egypt High School in Memphis; Christol McClain, 5-7
guard, Wooddale High School in Memphis; Christy Craig, 5-5 guard, Bolton,
TN High School; and Shunta Jones, 5-5 guard, Frayser High School in
Memphis. Please note attached synopsis of the recruits. Southwest Tennessee Community College Women's Basketball Recruits 6-2 Center Latosha Bailey Transfer from Texas A&M A very talented player. Will be a great addition to this team with her
inside-outside game. 6-0 Forward Jordan Morgan Millington Central Best of the Prep Averaged 11 points and 9 rebounds. Will be a big force inside and a
good rebounder. 5-10 Forward Tenesha Gaither Raleigh-Egypt Averaged 8 points and 10 rebounds. Will see time at the small forward
spot. 5-7 Guard Christol McClain Wooddale Averaged 16 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds. She is a good passer and
outside shooter. 5-5 Guard Christy Craig Bolton Did not play basketball this season. She has great range and can be a
big three- point shooter for us. 5-5 Guard Shunta Jones Frayser Best of the Prep Averaged 12 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds. She is a good passer and
will see time at the guard spot. Southwest Tennessee Community College is a Tennessee Board of Regents institution. |
