STCC's Gill Center Offering Seminar on Terrorism and Hostage-Taking
Southwest Tennessee Community College is offering a Continuing Education Seminar, A Practical, Tactical and Legal Perspective of Terrorism and Hostage-Taking, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., March 28, and April 2, 4, 9 and 11. This informative class will be held at the STCC Gill Center, 3833 Mountain Terrace. The cost is $30.00. Individuals who successfully complete the course will receive credit for 1.0 Continuing Education Unit.
The seminar is being presented by Andy Soltys, a retired special agent for the FBI. Soltys said the course examines options for dealing with criminal, political and mentally ill hostage takers. The sessions are designed to discuss the motives of terrorists and hostage takers.
Strategies aimed at helping law enforcement officers successfully deal with acts of terrorism will also be discussed. In addition, specific case study analysis will be used to rethink catastrophic incidents like Waco and Ruby Ridge. Topics of discussion include The Legal Duty to Negotiate, Use of Force, Application of High Tech Devices and The Legal Aspects of Post Emergency Crime Scene Investigation.
