STCC Sets Monster Mash Dash 5K Run/Walk

Southwest Tennessee Community College will host the Monster Mash Dash 5K Run/Walk at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 28, at Overton Park. This event is sanctioned by the Memphis Runners Track Club. The early registration fee is $12.00. Participants registering on the day of the race will pay $15.00. Race day registration is set from 12 noon until 1:45 p.m., at the main pavilion in Overton Park. All proceeds will be donated to the Southwest Tennessee Community College Foundation Scholarship Fund.

The 3.1 mile course for this scholarship fund-raiser begins at and winds through Overton Park. All participants will receive an attractive Monster Mash Dash T-shirt. Prizes for the best costume will be awarded in the following categories: individual, adult and child, and group.

Patsy Anderson, director of STCC's Gill Center in Frayser, is the chair of the 2001 Monster Mash Dash. She noted that the race is open to all individuals ranging from nine years old to 70 years and above. Anderson added that the event offers participants a good old-fashioned fun-run and an opportunity to contribute to scholarship funds for deserving area residents.

The award categories are: Overall Male and Female and Overall Masters (over 40-male and female). Age Group Awards -- Male and Female ages 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70+.

Trophies will be awarded to all first place winners. Medallions will be given to second and third place finishers.
