Southwest’s Shotwell Gets ATEA Appointment
Dr. Ada Shotwell, Dean of Liberal Arts and Education at Southwest
Tennessee Community College, has been appointed to the Editorial Committee
of the American Technical Education Association (ATEA). Editorial members
are responsible for reviewing, selecting, and editing the articles that
appear in the organization’s official news publication, ATEA Journal.
Published four times a year, the ATEA Journal contains articles, research
papers, instructional manuscripts, and job opportunity and placement
information. The publication also features technical and professional
updates for college faculty and administrators.
Dr. Shotwell’s appointment adds yet another honor to her distinguished
career. Last year, she was the recipient of the Charles O. Whitehead
Outstanding Service Award, presented by the Technical Education Division
of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE).
Other honors include being listed in Who’s Who Among Black Americans and
Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. She is a life time member of both the
American Technical Education Association and the Association for Career
and Technical Education. In addition to her technical memberships and
affiliations, Dr. Shotwell holds memberships in Phi Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa
Phi, the Urban League, the NAACP, and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
ATEA is an international organization dedicated to excellence in the
quality of post-secondary technical education, with emphasis on
professional development. The organization’s special focus in
preparing the U.S. to thrive in an international market is reflected in
its theme, “Technicians are the key to American’s ability to compete in
the global marketplace.”
