Southwest Foundation Board of Trustees Announces New Officers
Southwest Tennessee Community College announces the appointment of
officers to its Foundation Board of Trustees for the 2002-2003 academic
William B. Bill Nelms, president of the Memphis division of BancorpSouth,
has been named president; John M. Farris, a principal of Farris, Mathews,
Branan, Bobango & Hellen, P.L.C., has been named vice president; and J.
Thomas Deutsch, associate vice president of investments for Raymond James
& Associates, Inc., has been named secretary/treasurer. Dr. Nathan L.
Essex, Southwest president, made these appointments.
Nelms brings a wealth of experience as a business and civic leader to his
role as president of Southwest’s Foundation Board of Trustees. His
BancorpSouth responsibilities include the Bartlett, Wolfchase,
Collierville, Germantown and East Memphis branches. He is a member of the
Memphis Downtown Rotary Club and recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship
Award, and a member/director of the Collierville Chamber of Commerce.
The Southwest Foundation initiates fund-raising and public relations
efforts to assist in establishing scholarships for deserving students,
equipment for classrooms, staff development opportunities for Southwest
employees, start-up funding for innovative programs, and new facilities
for the College.
Southwest, Tennessee’s largest two-year college, has two main campuses –
the Union Avenue campus at 737 Union Avenue, and the Macon Cove campus at
5983 Macon Cove – and centers and teaching sites in Frayser, Millington,
Collierville, Southeast Memphis, Whitehaven and Fayette County, TN.
