The Southwest basketball teams defeated Cleveland State in both games of a menís and womenís doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the Verties Sails Gymnasium. The Lady Saluqis won by a score of 77-72, while the men defeated the Cougars 90-81.

In the womenís game, Imesia Jackson had her best game of the season with 26 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Lady Saluqis. Kenya Moore added 16 points and seven rebounds, and Ashley Mason scored 11 points and grabbed eight boards. As a team, the Southwest women out-rebounded Cleveland State 49-34 and out-shot the Lady Cougars 45 percent to 38 percent. With the win, the Lady Saluqis record improves to 7-5 on the year.

The Saluqis were led by Moraye Ivy, who scored a game high 23 points on 9 of 12 shooting. Also in double figures were Anthony Pigram with 17 points and Dee Burchett with 14 points. Jeremy Marrs was the top rebounder with eight and also blocked a season-high six shots. The game was tied at 40-40 at halftime, but the Saluqis shot 55 percent in the second half to outscore Cleveland State 50-41 in the second stanza.

The Southwest men, now 7-4 on the season, return to action on Thursday, December 9 against Southeastern Illinois at the Verties Sails Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Both the menís and womenís teams travel to Madisonville, Tennessee on Saturday, December 11 to take on Hiwassee. Game times for Saturday are 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men (Eastern Time.)
