SOUTHWEST SOFTBALL TEAM SPLITS WITH ITAWAMBA, LOSES TO COLUMBIA STATE IN
CONFERENCE OPENER
The Southwest softball team went 1-5 last week with the lone win over
Itawamba Community College. On Monday, the Lady Saluqis were swept in a
doubleheader at Williams Baptist College (Walnut Ridge, Ark.) by scores of
9-8 and 10-5. On Thursday, Southwest split a doubleheader at Itawamba
(Fulton, Miss.), losing the first game 9-1 and winning the second game
5-2. Saturday at the Appling Complex, the Lady Saluqis opened conference
play against Columbia State Community College and were defeated in both
games, 14-2 and 2-1.
In the Lady Saluqis' win over Itawamba, Ginny Glenn won her second game of
the season, scattering nine hits and walking none in seven innings. Top
hitters for Southwest were Melissa Perry, Tiffany Bright, and Kacie Adams
with two hits each. Glenn also pitched an outstanding game in the 2-1 loss
to Columbia State, allowing seven hits and two walks. Heather Bryant was
the Lady Saluqis' top hitter against Columbia State with three doubles in
the two games.
