Release written by: Keith Gentry
Freshman right-hander Jason Adams allowed only four hits and struck out
three to lead the Southwest baseball team to a 4-1 win over Chattanooga
State Technical and Community College on Saturday afternoon at Gagliano
Field. The win improved Southwest’s overall record to 23-22 and its
conference record to 9-15.
After losing the first two games of the three-game conference series,
the Saluqis jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Clay Wright,
Chris Rogers, and Matt Akin opened the inning with consecutive singles
with Wright scoring on Akin’s hit. Jonathan Thurston then reached by a
walk before Ryan Orr’s triple plated Rogers and Thurston. The Saluqis
added a single tally in the sixth inning when Phillip White reached
first on a hit-by-pitch, advanced to third on a double by Rogers and
scored on a sacrifice fly by Akin.
Southwest will travel to Fulton, Mississippi on Tuesday, April 19 for a
5 p.m. (non-conference) doubleheader against Itawamba Community College.

three-game TJCCAA series against Cleveland State Community College. A
