SOUTHWEST MEN DEFEAT COLUMBIA STATE FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN

Lester Hudson and Greg Grimes scored 20 points each and Anthony Pigram
added 18 points to lead the Southwest mens basketball team to a 114-92
win over Columbia State Community College on Saturday, December 10, at
the Billy Webster Athletic Center in Columbia, Tennessee. The win
improved the Saluqis record to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the Tennessee
Junior and Community College Athletic Association.
Southwest shot a sizzling 63 percent from the field for the game, making
41 of 65 shots. Southwest assisted on 30 baskets (led by Nathan Walton
with seven), and out rebounded Columbia State 41-28 (led by Grimes with
seven.) Other top scorers for the Saluqis were Moraye Ivy and Rich
Lively with 12 points apiece.
The Southwest women lost to Columbia State 80-70 as the Lady Saluqis
shot just 34 percent from the field including 25 percent from
three-point range. The leading scorers for Southwest were Priscilla
Campbell with 13 points and Imesia Jackson and Tameka Wooten with 12
points each. Jackson was also the top rebounder with 10. The loss
dropped the Lady Saluqis record to 4-6 overall and 3-5 in the TJCCAA.
The Southwest basketball teams return to action this Saturday, December
17, when the Saluqis and Lady Saluqis host Volunteer State Community
College at the Verties Sails Gymnasium. The womens game is scheduled to
tip-off at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m. Play-by-play for both
games can be heard locally on WUMR 91.7 FM.
