SOUTHWEST SOFTBALL TEAM DROPS TWINBILL TO MOTLOW STATE
The Southwest softball team dropped a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon
at the Appling Complex to defending conference runner-up Motlow State
Community College, losing 14-1 in the first game and 11-7 in the second.
The losses dropped the Lady Saluqis record to 5-7 on the season.
In the second game, the Lady Saluqis battled back to make it a close
game after falling behind 5-1 after three innings. Southwest scored its
first run in the bottom of the first on consecutive singles by Jennifer
Davenport, Tiffany Bright, and Heather Bryant. In the bottom of the
fourth inning, Southwest scored three more runs to trim the deficit to
5-4. After Motlow State added a run in the fifth and two more in the
sixth, Davenport singled in Erica Brich in the bottom of the sixth to
make the score 8-5 Motlow State. The Lady Bucks scored three more runs
in the top of the seventh, but the Lady Saluqis rallied again in the
bottom of the seventh, scoring two more times. With one out, Chrissy
Odom walked, followed by three straight singles by Ginny Galloway, Katie
Cerrito, and Christi Morrison, who drove in both runs with her base hit.
Jennifer Davenport was the Lady Saluqis top hitter on the day with four
hits in the two games. Also with multiple hits in the doubleheader were
Heather Bryant, Ginny Galloway, and Christi Morrison.
The next game for the Southwest softball team will be on Monday, March
14, when the Lady Saluqis travel to Harrisburg, Illinois to take on
Southeastern Illinois College in a 2 p.m. doubleheader. Southwest will
return home to the Appling Complex on Wednesday, March 16 at 2 p.m.
against Three Rivers Community College.
