SOUTHWEST SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH DYERSBURG

The Southwest softball team split a doubleheader with Dyersburg State
last Wednesday in Dyersburg, Tennessee, winning 6-3 and losing 3-2. The
Lady Saluqis record now stands at 15-22 overall and 4-6 in the TJCCAA.
In game one, Southwest jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first
inning. Gina High led off the game with a double, stole third then both
she and Jessica Hefflinger (who walked) scored on a double by Jennifer
Davenport. Ashley Forrest followed with a single to drive in Davenport
with the third run of the inning. Southwest added two more in the second
inning on a two-run single by Erica Brich and one run in the sixth on
consecutive doubles by Caryn Hubbard and Lindsey McGoff. Brich was also
the winning pitcher, allowing one earned run and striking
out ten.
Despite the loss in game two, Lady Saluqis pitcher Allison Mullins
pitched an outstanding game, allowing only three hits (including only
one after the first inning) and one earned run. High collected three of
the four Southwest hits in the game and on the day went 5 for 7 with a
double, triple, two stolen bases, and three runs scored.
The Lady Saluqis return to action on Monday, April 10 when they travel
to Jackson, Tennessee to take on conference rival Jackson State at 2
p.m. On Wednesday, April 12 Southwest travels to Conway, Arkansas to
play against Central Baptist College at 2 p.m. then on Saturday, April
15 the Lady Saluqis host Columbia State in a TJCCAA match-up at 1 p.m.
at the Buckhead Creek Recreation Complex.
