SOUTHWEST STUDENT GETS NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Written by Brenda J. Rayner
Victor Velazquez, vice president of the Southwest Student Government
Association was nominated for the Collegiate All-American Scholar Award.
The United States Achievement Academy established the Collegiate
All-American Scholar Award Program to offer deserved recognition to
superior students who excel in the academic disciplines. The Collegiate
All-American Scholars must earn a 3.3 or higher grade point average.
Only scholars selected by a school official or other qualified sponsor
are accepted. This award is a prestigious honor very few students can
ever hope to attain. In fact, the Academy recognizes fewer than 10
percent of all college students.
In addition, Velazquez received the National Scholars Honor Society
Award, Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges, and
Southwest’s Student Achievement Honors Award from the Liberal, Fine
Arts, and Academic Department this semester. Velazquez will be attending
Christian Brothers University and University of Memphis in fall 2006.
