SOUTHWEST BASKETBALL TEAMS RETURN TO COURT

The Southwest men’s and women’s basketball teams return to the hardwood
this weekend with conference games against Chattanooga State on Friday
night, January 12 and Motlow State on Saturday afternoon, January 13 at
the Verties Sails Gymnasium. Friday’s games will tip-off at 6 p.m.
(women) and 8 p.m. (men) with Saturday’s games scheduled for 2 p.m.
(women) and 4 p.m. (men).
Coach Verties Sails’ Saluqis are off to their best start since the
2000-2001 season, when Southwest won 17 of its first 20 games. The
Southwest men, currently 12-3 overall and 9-2 in the Tennessee Junior
and Community College Athletic Association, are led in scoring by
sophomores Lester Hudson (15.7 points per game), Anthony Pigram (15.0)
and Moraye Ivy (13.3). The Saluqis are coming off a 96-85 win over
Pensacola Junior College in the Pensacola Collegiate Sports Travel
Shootout.
The Lady Saluqis, coached by Andrea Martre, are 9-6 overall and 6-5 in
the TJCCAA. The Southwest women have won their last five games in a row,
including recent wins over Kennedy-King and Georgia Perimeter in the
Lady Saluqis Classic. They are led in scoring by sophomore Imesia
Jackson (17.0 points per game). Jackson is also the top rebounder in the
conference averaging 11.1 per game.
