DANCE WORKS 2006 OPEN HOUSE PERFORMANCE

Dance Works “Open House Performance”, in its’ nineteenth year,
will feature: “Cooking Session”, by guest choreographer Mathew Keefe
(Minneapolis, MN.), accompanied by musicians Tony Thomas (keyboard) and
Scott Thompson (trumpet) on May 12 at 7 p.m. This work reflects high
speed dancing in a kitchen cooking with an inspector checking in on the
cooks!
Local choreographer, Sandra Baldwin, restages for Dance Works two very
classical ballet works to a Chopin waltz and Mazurka from “Les
Sylphides”, accompanied by pianist Lyn Joyner. Artistic Director
Karen J. Zissoff choreographs to “Bach’s - Sarabandes”, using
Bach’s English and French Suites. This work reflects a contemporary
style of modern dancer/choreographer Doris Humphrey, accompanied by
pianist Lyn Joyner.
Other pieces on the program will include ballet vignettes and national
character dances from Hungary, Poland, and Russia. Resident pianists are
Linda Marks and Matthew Sutton who will accompany during these pieces.
Dance Works offers yearly dance instruction for boys and girls ages 4 to
22 years and summer intensive programs for ages 7 and up at the
Southwest Union Avenue Campus. The program has a broad ballet base and
includes creative and contemporary dance as well as Pointe, character
and limbering instruction. Summer instruction also offers jazz hip hop.
