SHIELDS LEADING NJCAA IN SCORING

Southwest’s Ashley Shields was at the top of the scoring charts when the
National Junior College Athletic Association released its first
statistical report this week. Shields, a 5’10” sophomore from Melrose
High School, is averaging 32.2 points per game through five games this
season for the Lady Saluqis. She scored a season-high 41 points in the
season-opener against Coahoma and has scored at least 30 points in four
of the five games.
In addition to scoring, Shields also ranks high in the Tennessee Junior
and Community College Athletic Association in several other categories.
She is first in steals (4.2 per game), second in rebounds (10.0 per
game), third in assists (4.4 per game), fourth in two-point field goal
percentage (68.4), eighth in three-point field goal percentage (40.0),
and ninth in free throw percentage (85.4).
