Southwest Baseball Team Signs Two
Release written by Keith Gentry
The Saluqis baseball team has signed two student-athletes to national
letters of intent to continue their education and baseball careers at
Southwest. Joining the Saluqis for 2007-2008 are Austin Moody from
Millington Central High School and Nick Purcell from Bartlett High
School.
Moody played catcher and shortstop at Millington Central, where he
batted over .400 with five home runs his senior season and led the team
with 49 runs batted in. Moody is a dual-position player who will give
the Saluqis depth up the middle as well as behind the plate.
Purcell, a right-handed pitcher, transfers to Southwest from Dyersburg
State Community College. As a senior at Bartlett High in 2006, Purcell
posted a 4-1 record with four saves and a 2.80 earned run average and
helped lead the Panthers to runner-up in the Class AAA state tournament.
