SOUTHWEST SOFTBALL TO
PLAY IN TIGER FALL TOURNAMENT
The Southwest softball team will play four games this
weekend in the Tiger Fall Tournament hosted by The University of Memphis
including three games against four-year universities. The Lady Saluqis
will take on the host team Memphis in their first game at noon on
Saturday, followed by Christian Brothers University at 2 p.m. On Sunday,
Southwest will play Henderson State University at 2 p.m. and Northwest
Mississippi Community College at 6 p.m.
Top hitters for the Lady Saluqis this fall
are freshman Maegan Wilson (.478 batting average), Whitney Witcher (.438)
and Amber Gatewood (.400), and sophomore Staci Craig (.346). Wilson also
leads the pitching staff with five wins and 33 strikeouts.
After a 2-4 start this fall, Southwest has won five of its last eight
games, including wins over four-year schools Lambuth (twice) and
Crichton. The Lady Saluqis have also defeated Alabama Southern, Holmes,
and Coahoma community colleges.
