The Southwest baseball team, coming off a sweep of conference rival Volunteer State last weekend, will host 2nd-ranked Walters State in a three-game series this Friday and Saturday at First Tennessee Fields. The two teams will play a single game on Friday at 1 p.m. followed by a noon doubleheader on Saturday.

Sophomore third baseman Devin Hicks, a transfer from Ole Miss, leads the Saluqis with a .412 batting average, three home runs, 12 runs batted in, and a .765 slugging average. Other top hitters are freshman designated hitter Chris Coleman (.367, 12 RBI), freshman first baseman Jesse Brooks (.359, 6 RBI), and sophomore leftfielder Billy Ray Todd (.42, 6 RBI).

Sophomore closer Brandon Goodman leads the pitching staff with a 1-1 record and has not allowed an earned run in 8-1/3 innings of work. Projected Southwest starters for the series are sophomore Colby Fitzpatrick (0-1, 5.40 ERA), freshman Nick Purcell (1-2, 5.79 ERA), and freshman Justin Wright (0-0, 5.40 ERA).
