Southwest Softball Team Hosts Fall Classic

The Southwest Softball Team will host the Lady Saluqi Fall Classic on October 2 at the Buckhead Creek Recreation Complex in Arlington, Tenn. In addition to Southwest, other participating schools will be Dyersburg State Community College, Northwest-Shoals Community College (Ala.), Southeastern Illinois College, and Three Rivers Community College (Mo.). The Lady Saluqis will play Southeastern Illinois at 4 p.m., Northwest-Shoals at 5:30 p.m., and Dyersburg State at 7 p.m.

Southwest returns four sophomores from last year's 40-19 team – catcher Brittany McKee, first baseman Katy Ahrens, and outfielders Ashley Huey and Brittaney McGrew. Newcomers to the team are freshmen Lauren Alexander (Holly Springs, Miss.), Bianca Cowan (Olive Branch, Miss.), Chrissy Darnell (Coldwater, Miss.), Jessica Goodin (Needville, Texas), Baylee Herlacher (Jacksonville, Ark.), Kayla Jarvis (Bartlett, Tenn.), Rachel Martin (Bartlett, Tenn.), Melissa McGovern (Millington, Tenn.), Emilie Poston (Arlington, Tenn.), Raven Pickett (Sherwood, Ark.), Michelle Westerfield (Brighton, Tenn.), and Collin Jo Wood (West Memphis, Ark.).
