Southwest Softball Team Signs Three

The Lady Saluqis' softball team has signed three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to continue their education and softball careers at Southwest beginning with the 2008-09 season.

Lauren Alexander, a pitcher-infielder, comes to Southwest from Marshall Academy in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Alexander led her team to back to back Class AA Mississippi Private School Association (MPSA) state championships and the school's first ever MPSA Overall State Title her senior season. She posted a 25-4 pitching record as a senior with a 0.89 earned run average and 152 strikeouts and was also one of the team's top hitters with a .378 batting average, 37 runs scored and a .545 on-base average. In her three-year career, Alexander compiled a 52-19 pitching record with 329 strikeouts.

A teammate of Alexander's on the Bluff City Bombers' 18U Competitive Fast-Pitch team, Bianca Cowan comes to Southwest from Center Hill High School in Olive Branch, Mississippi. The leadoff hitter for her high school team, Cowan plays shortstop and outfield and has outstanding speed. As a junior, Cowan batted .283 with a team-leading 13 stolen bases.

The third signee is Bailee Herlacher of Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Herlacher is a three-year letter winner and two-time All-Conference outfielder who has led her high school team to three straight final four finishes in the Arkansas state tournament. As a junior, Herlacher batted .327 with 11 stolen bases after batting .303 with 19 stolen bases as a sophomore.
