Four Lady Saluqi Softball Players Earn All-Conference Honors

Four members of the Southwest softball team have been named All-Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA), as voted on by the conference’s head coaches.

Sophomore shortstop/pitcher Amber Hayes (Brighton High School) earned First Team All-TCCAA honors after batting .434 and setting Southwest single season records with 17 home runs, 6 triples, 65 runs batted in, 66 hits, 139 total bases, and a .914 slugging average. Hayes also pitched in 16 games, compiling a 9-5 record with a 3.23 earned run average and 56 strikeouts. In addition, she was named National Junior College Athletic Association Division 1 Player of the Week, a first for a Southwest softball player.

Sophomore leftfielder Ashley Frizzell (Covington High School), the Lady Saluqis’ leadoff hitter, was a Second Team All-TCCAA selection. Frizzell batted .382 with 2 home runs and 19 runs batted in. She has a team-high of 16 stolen bases.

Two Lady Saluqis were named Third Team All-TCCAA – sophomore second baseman Carly McLennan (Munford High School) and sophomore centerfielder Amber Gatewood (Brighton High School). McLennan batted .395 with 5 home runs, 45 runs batted in, and holds a Southwest-record with 21 doubles while Gatewood batted .310 and set Southwest records with 53 runs scored and 28 walks.
