Southwest Unveils Its New High-Tech Library

Southwest Tennessee Community College will unveil its newly constructed, ultramodern Macon Cove Campus Library at 11 a.m. on May 29. This open house event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a tour of the forward-looking structure.

The event, open to the general public and media, will be held at 5983 Macon Cove just off the I-40 East at Sycamore View Road exit. The campus can be accessed from the Sycamore View and Macon Road intersection or from the “New Road” entrance on Sycamore View about one block south of the Sycamore View-Macon Road traffic light.

Jointly designed by Evans Taylor Foster Childress Architects and Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects, Inc., and constructed by Smith-Doyle Contractors, Inc., the two-story 69,300 square-foot facility creates a new learning environment for Southwest students with its open spaces, large windows, media gallery and cyber café/poets corner. It is equipped with a state-of-the-art surround sound auditorium and multimedia conference rooms which are available for community use.

“The vision I have for library services is to develop ways that we can better serve our community. I think, particularly with this new library, we have that opportunity,” said Carolyn Head, executive director of library services.

Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor Charles W. Manning will bring greetings. Southwest President Nathan Essex will give a brief overview of the significance of the library and its benefits for the college and the Mid-South Community.

Ample parking is available. For more information, contact Rose Landey, executive director of institutional development, at (901) 333-4577 or via e-mail at
