Accomplished business professional, Joseph DeVivo will deliver the commence address to the Southwest Tennessee Community College 2011 graduating class on May 7 at the DeSoto Civic Center. DeVivo is the president of Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics, a global medical device company that helps patients regain their right to an active lifestyle through joint replacement and fracture fixation. With over 20 years of marketing, development, sales, operations and executive leadership experience, DeVivo joined Smith & Nephew as president of the company's Orthopaedic Reconstruction business unit in June 2007. Previously, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of RITA Medical Systems, Inc., a pioneer of radiofrequency ablation technology, which was acquired by AngioDynamics in 2006. He also served as President and Chief Operating Officer of the medical robotics company, Computer Motion, Inc., where he helped turn the company's performance around ahead of its merger with Intuitive Surgery, Inc. in 2003. From 1993 to 2002, DeVivo was an administrator with United States Surgical (USS), a division of Tyco Healthcare, where he held a wide variety of positions, including Vice President and General Manager of the USS/DG Sutures Division, Senior Director of Global Marketing and Director of Product Development. DeVivo holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Richmond, Richmond, Va.
His community affiliations include serving as Chairman of the Board for the Greater Memphis Chamber, membership with Memphis Tomorrow, co-chair of the Memphis Fast Forward Economic Development Plan (Memphis ED), and membership on the Board of AdvaMed (Advanced Medical Technology Association).
