More than 1,700 candidates will receive associate degrees and technical certificates on Saturday, May 7, at 10:30 a.m. at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, MS, as Southwest Tennessee Community College observes its 2011 Commencement ceremonies. Provost and Executive Vice President Joanne Bassett will preside, and Southwest President Nathan L. Essex will confer Associate of Arts, Associate of Science and Associate of Applied Science degrees, and Technical Certificates.
Joseph DeVivo, president of Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics and chairman of the board for the Greater Memphis Chamber of Commerce, will be the Commencement speaker. He will be introduced by student speaker Tinisia E. Branch, president of the Honors Academy and the Service Learning Club who will receive her Associate of Arts degree. Additional honors to be presented include the Alumnus of the Year Award and the William W. Farris Faculty Service Award.
