Southwest Releases 2011-2012 Basketball Schedule
Southwest Tennessee Community College basketball coaches Verties Sails Jr. and Andrea Martre have released their 2011-2012 basketball schedules which feature nine men's and women's doubleheaders against Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) opponents.
In their final tune-ups before regular season play begins, the men's team will play an exhibition game on October 22 against the Spirit Express. Both the men and women will take on Southwest Alumni Teams in exhibition games on October 29. All three games will be played at the Verties Sails Gymnasium on Southwest's Union Avenue Campus.
Both the Saluqis and Lady Saluqis open the regular season on November 1 against Mid-South Community College at the Verties Sails Gymnasium. The Lady Saluqis will then play in the Dyersburg State Tournament on November 4-5. Both of the teams begin conference play the following week at home against Cleveland State on November 11 and defending Region VII men's and women's champion Chattanooga State on November 12.
TCCAA opponents on the 18-game conference slate are Chattanooga State, Cleveland State, Columbia State, Dyersburg State, Jackson State, Motlow State, Roane State, Volunteer State and Walters State. Southwest will play all nine conference opponents both home and away.
Non-conference games on this season's schedule are against Arkansas Baptist (home and away, women/men), Mid-South (home and away, men; home, women), New Creations Prep (home, men) and New Horizon Prep (home, men). The women's team will also play in a tournament at Georgia Perimeter and host the annual Lady Saluqi Classic.
The 2012 TCCAA/Region VII Tournament will be held in Jackson, Tennessee on March 6-10 with the tournament champions advancing to the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament March 20-24 in Salina, Kansas (women) and Hutchinson, Kansas (men).
