Date: November 1, 2013
The Financial Aid and Advising departments at Southwest Tennessee Community College have partnered to present Non-Traditional Lottery and Helping Heroes Grant workshops for its non-traditional and veteran student populations. The workshops will be held on November 20 at 10 a.m. and again at 5 p.m. in the Farris Auditorium on the Macon Cove Campus. The purpose of the workshops is to provide funding guidelines, specifically eligibility requirements and application processes.
The Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship for Non-Traditional students provides post-secondary educational financial assistance for individuals who are at least 25 when they begin college, or re-enter college after a break of at least 2 years. Those who meet residency, financial need, and academic requirements may qualify for a lottery scholarship of $4,000 per year.
The Helping Heroes Grant program provides post-secondary educational financial assistance (on a first-come, first-served basis) to Tennessee veterans who are former members of the armed forces, or a former or current member of a reserve or a Tennessee National Guard unit, and who were called into active military service.
Both funding sources were established as part of the system of lottery-funded scholarships and are administered by the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC).
The training will be presented by Felicia Orr, an Outreach Specialist with TSAC.
