IRS Data Retrieval Tool transfers your IRS tax return information and/or parent's directly into your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Submission of Tax Documents
If you are selected for verification, and copies of your or your parents' taxes are requested, you may no longer submit 1040 forms. You must request an IRS transcript using the online, telephone or paper method.
How To Obtain an IRS Transcript
Online Request
- Go to Order a Transcript
- Select "Order a Transcript" shown under step 3 (Go get your transcript)
- Enter requested personal information
- Choose "Return Transcript" as the type of transcript
- If you filed an amended return, you must submit a second request and choose 'Account Transcript"
Telephone Request
- Call the IRS at 1-800-908-9946
- Enter requested personal information
- Select "Option 2" to request an IRS Tax Return Transcript and then enter "2011"
- For an amended return, select "Option 4" to request both the Tax Return Transcript and Tax Account Transcript, and then enter "2011"
Paper Request
- Only use this method, if you are unable to use the "Online or Telephone Request." This is the slowest method and can take up to 30 days.

- Print IRS Form 4506T-EZ, Short Form Request for Individual Tax Return Transcript, mail or fax the completed form to the appropriate address listed on page two (2) of IRS Form 4506T-EZ
- For an amended return, use IRS Form 4506-T Request for Transcript of Tax Return and request the "Record of Account"
