How do I apply for mentorship?

What are the benefits of having a mentor?

Peer mentors can assist with:

  • Navigating campus and community resources
  • Adapting to college life
  • Connecting with your academic advisor
  • Registering for classes
  • Time management
  • Stress management

Who can request a mentor?

Any student with a 2.25-2.75 grade point average who has declared a major is eligible to apply.

*Peer mentoring is currently offered at the Union Avenue and Macon Cove campuses, and the Whitehaven and Maxine A. Smith centers.

How will I know if I have been assigned a mentor?

  • All applicants will receive email notification either of their acceptance or denial to the program.
  • Accepted applicants will need to set up an initial meeting with their mentor in order to establish goals and a communication plan.

I was not assigned a mentor but have questions. What should I do?

We are here to help all our students. While we may not be available to meet in person, you are encouraged to reach out to us via email at mentoring@southwest.tn.edu.
