Fast Track Opportunities
The Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Technical Certificate is designed to provide the student with the foundation needed for competent entry-level Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). The student will be educated toward the goal of becoming an integral part of the health care team in the overall health care system to reduce mortality and morbidity of the general population In order to become licensed in the State of Tennessee the student must successfully complete the Basic Emergency Medical Technology Program, pass an EMT program comprehensive exam, pass the National Registry Exam for EMT and apply for Tennessee Licensure as a Basic Emergency Medical Technician.
The traditional path for the EMT-Basic Technical Certificate is three EMT courses, two taken the first semester and one taken in the second semester for a total of 17 credit hours.
The Fast Track consists of just one, 17 credit hour course. The class meets for eight hours, twice a week for one semester. Due to the rigorous and intensive coursework it is recommended that the student have completed some college course work, score at least a 20 on the ACT, or have experience in the Health-care industry.

The Fast Track Management degree is an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Business with a Management Concentration. This program is designed for the serious adult learner and working individuals, who would benefit from learning managerial principles, practices, and concepts needed in a business or organizational environment, but need to complete their degree in the shortest time possible.
The Fast Track Management Degree differs from a traditional degree in the way classes are organized. It is designed for a group of students to form a cohort and stay together throughout their degree plan. Both traditional classroom learning and on-line classes are utilized as well as short-term "FLEX (Faster Learning EXperience)" classes. Each member of the cohort will be assigned to an advisor who will assist and advise you throughout the program.

The Fast Track Entrepreneurship degree is an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.)
in Business with an Entrepreneurship Concentration. This program is designed for the serious adult learner and working individuals,
who would benefit from learning practical, hands-on aspects of small business, but
need to complete their degree in the shortest time possible. Students completing this
program will be equipped with the practical knowledge, skills, and abilities to prepare
a comprehensive business plan, demonstrate working knowledge of basic financial statements,
explain small business credit policy, describe operational and organizational structures
as well as apply primary management skills.

The Phlebotomy program at Southwest is the only National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) approved Phlebotomy program in the State of Tennessee. The fast-track program in Phlebotomy is a one-semester program that includes 18 semester credit hours of coursework. Upon completion of the program, graduates receive the Technical Certificate in Laboratory Phlebotomy Technician and may challenge national certification exams in phlebotomy.
A full semester is 14 weeks in length. The FLEX (Faster Learning EXperience) I term is described as the first seven weeks of the semester and the FLEX II term is described as the final seven weeks of the semester. In the FLEX I term, students enroll in two courses:
MLAB 1301 is a three semester credit hour course and PLBT 1300 is a three semester credit hour course. In FLEX I term, students attend class four days per week, four hours per day.
Students are accepted for FLEX II term based on the admission index, which is computed using grades in MLAB 1301 and PLBT 1300, along with overall college level GPA. Seven students are accepted and priority is given to students with the highest index. Those accepted for the FLEX II term enroll in three courses:
PLBT 1350 is a two semester credit hour course and PLBT 1301 and PLBT 1401 are 5 semester credit hour courses. In the FLEX II term, students attend five days per week and may attend as early at 5 a.m. and as late as 4 p.m.

The LPN Mobility Track is available to facilitate educational mobility for Licensed Practical Nurses. LPN's admitted to and completing this track of the Southwest Nursing Program, are awarded an Associate of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) in Nursing and are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to become licensed as a Registered Nurse. A passing score on the national examination allows the graduate to practice as a Registered Nurse.
Admitted LPN Mobility Track students are awarded seven hours' credit for the NURS 1114 - Foundations Of Nursing and NURS 1126 - Foundations Clinical courses on the basis of their prior LPN educational program and current, active LPN License.
