Southwest and Generation USA partner to offer free online IT trainings

Southwest is partnering with Generation USA to offer two FREE online IT trainings that will prepare individuals for careers as an IT Help Desk Technician and Digital Marketing Analyst.  In addition to the skills training, participants can earn valuable certifications and explore apprenticeships, internships, continuing education or full-time employment.

Graduates of the IT Help Desk Technician class can earn a CompTIA A+ certification.

Graduates of the Digital Marketing Analyst training will be able to take the exam for Google Analytics IQ and Facebook Blueprint certifications.

The application deadline to enroll is January 1, 2021.  Classes start January 4, 2021.  All applicants will undergo an initial screening for eligibility.

CLASS SCHEDULES

  • Both trainings will be held online during the day, Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Digital Marketing Analyst classes last 10 weeks
  • IT Help Desk Technician classes last 12 weeks

HOW TO APPLY

APPLICANT CRITERIA

  • 18 years or older at the start of the program
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Live within 60 miles of Memphis, TN (proof of address required)
  • Possess a Laptop OR Chromebook that meets the requirements for TestOut software
  • Available Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. CST
  • Authorized to work in the U.S., if planning to pursue employment

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much does it cost?
The training is FREE, but individuals must qualify. To qualify individuals, need to apply using the links above and then follow next steps provided by Generation.  No money is required at any point.

Do I have to be a TN or Memphis resident?
Memphis or TN residency is NOT required, but candidates who live within a 60 miles radius of Memphis will be given priority. 

Is the training online or in-person?
The training is all online (remote learning), and individuals should be available 9-5 p.m. No evening sections or make up options are available.

Do I need to register with Southwest as a student?
No, individuals do not need to register with Southwest before applying. All registration decisions are made by Generation. 

A huge boost to significantly scaling access to Generation USA’s free, tech-focused programs locally and nationwide has been its partnership with Verizon, one of the largest corporate partnerships in Generation USA’s history. The partnership will enable Generation to support Verizon’s goal of preparing 500,000 individuals for jobs of the future by 2030. This effort is part of Citizen Verizon, their responsible business plan for economic, environmental, and social advancement.
