Success CoachesSuccess Coaches are here to support you throughout your college journey. While we primarily assist students on Academic Probation, guiding them back to Good Academic Standing, we serve all Southwest students as a central contact for any inquiries. Operating under the Office of Student Success’ “Culture of Caring and Academic Excellence,” our coaches ensure you're treated with empathy and respect. Fatima Escobar is a dedicated success coach with over 4 years of experience in higher education. As a first-generation college STEAM student herself, Fatima is passionate about empowering all students and helping them navigate the complexities of college life and achieve their academic and personal goals.

Fatima holds a B.S. in Natural Science (Concentration Public Health) from Christian Brothers University and is currently working on her Masters in Public Health at The University of Memphis. She believes in a holistic approach to student success, focusing not only on academics but also on personal development, resilience, and community engagement.

In her free time, Fatima enjoys spending time with her dog and cheering on the Memphis Grizzlies!

I am a proud graduate of Southwest, Class of 2004! As a student I participated in many clubs, tutored in the Computer Lab, and served as the President of the Alpha Beta Gamma Honor Society. I have a B. S. in Financial Management and an MBA in Business Administration. I come to you with over 20 years of teaching experience at various institutions. I came back to Southwest as an adjunct professor with the Business Department in 2020, where I won the title of Adjunct Professor of the Year for the year 2021-2022! I love to read and learn new things, and I love to teach and help others. I take my role in making sure every student at Southwest is successful very seriously. Feel free to contact me anytime!

Joshua Nave is the Title III Project Activities Director, supervising the Success Coach and Peer Mentor programs.  He joined Southwest in Fall 2015 as an adjunct instructor of Spanish and Academic Success Seminar. In Fall 2023, he transitioned into his current full-time role. He holds a B.A. in Spanish and Communications from Lee University, an M.A. in Hispanic Studies from Louisiana State University, and an MBA from the University of Memphis. As a part of the Title III Strengthening Institutions IDEAS Grant at Southwest, he is dedicated to closing achievement gaps, increasing student success, and fostering professional development for faculty and staff. He is happy to collaborate with a dedicated team of Success Coaches who work together to meet the needs of students and provide opportunities for Peer Mentors to develop valuable skills, guiding them to become competitive candidates for employment and academic opportunities after graduating from Southwest.
