Saluqi Athletics unveils Return to Play plan

By Keith Gentry

SaluqiSouthwest Tennessee Community College athletic competitions are postponed until the spring semester. The decision follows National Junior College Athletic Association and the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association recommendations regarding COVID-19 protocols and competition. The guidelines allow Southwest sports athletes to participate in on-campus practices and scrimmages this fall on a limited basis through Nov. 15.

“The health and safety of our student-athletes and their ability to pursue their credentials are of utmost importance to the College,” says Southwest Athletic Director Roger Ogden. “Our goal is to adopt and follow the highest safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe return to play,” Ogden said.

To monitor each student-athlete’s daily condition, Southwest has implemented temperature checks and a popular online tracking application called Healthy Roster, among other health and safety measures.

Southwest’s athletic plan for Return to Play may be reviewed on Southwest’s Back to Campus Plan. Spring semester activities will begin on or around January 4, 2021.  For more information on Southwest’s return to play, contact Sports Information Director Keith Gentry at (901) 333-4114 or mgentry@southwest.tn.edu.
