The Southwest women's basketball team won two games over the weekend at the Verties Sails Gymnasium, improving its record to 9-6 overall and 5-3 (and in 2nd place) in the TCCAA.

On Friday night, Takya Bennett and Tia Bland scored 16 points each to lead the Lady Saluqis to a 67-50 win over Volunteer State. Bennett also led the team with 13 rebounds for her 9th double-double of the season. Also scoring in double-figures were Tamia Curry with 12 points (on 5 of 7 shooting) and Candace Gaines with 11 points.

Bennett had another huge game on Saturday afternoon with 25 points and 12 rebounds and Curry had a season-high 25 points and grabbed 10 boards to lead the Lady Saluqis to a 96-76 win over Motlow State. Dyrianda Johnson came off the bench to score a season-high 18 points on 6 three-pointers and Bland added 13 points and led the team with 7 assists.

The Southwest men split their two games, defeating Volunteer State 101-67 and losing to Motlow State in a close one 68-65. The Saluqis are also 9-6 overall and are in 3rd place in the TCCAA with a 6-3 record.

Seven players scored in the win over Volunteer State - Cedric Henderson (20), Christian Jones (19), Anthony Yarbrough (19), J'Sebian Brown (11), Joshua Kelly (10), KiVeyon King (10) and Anthony Whitmore (10). Yarbrough made 7 of 11 of his field goal attempts and led the team with 12 rebounds. Brown and Jones had 8 assists each as the Saluqis had 28 assists as a team.

Yarbrough also led the team in the loss to Motlow State with season-highs of 21 points and 18 rebounds. Jones added 18 points off the bench and Henderson had 10 points for his 15th consecutive game scoring in double figures.
