Record-Breaking Season!

(Memphis, Tenn.) - Southwest Tennessee Community College will hold a celebration for the Saluqi baseball team’s record-breaking season on Monday, May 15 at 9:30 a.m. in the Fulton Auditorium on the College’s Macon Cove Campus. The Southwest baseball team, under the direction of Head Coach Erik Schoenrock, finished the regular season with 41 wins which broke the school record of 40 wins which was set in 2004. The win total was increased to 42 with a win over Volunteer State on Tuesday in the opening game of the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament. The public is invited to join in the celebration that includes a Proclamation by Mickell M. Lowery, Chairman, Shelby County Commission.

“I am extremely proud of what our student-athletes achieved this season under the leadership of Coach Schoenrock” said Southwest Athletic Director Jarrett Stephens. “Not only have they won the most games in program history, but have many individual awards that were attained this season. Our guys always represent themselves with excellence, on and off the field, and we are extremely proud of our baseball program!”

In addition to the 42 victories, many individual Saluqis’ records for the season will also be celebrated at the event. Sophomore pitcher Colton Brumley broke several records this season including most wins in a season (13 – breaking the record of 11 previously held by Brian Bramlett in 1992), most strikeouts in a season (125 – breaking the record of 97 previously held by Daniel Adams in 2004), most wins in a career (19 – breaking the record of 18 previously held by Saluqis’ Hall of Famer and former major leaguer Charlie Lea from 1976-77), and most strikeouts in a career (222 – breaking the record of 160 previously held by Saluqis’ Hall of Famer Joe Lantrip from 1988-89), most innings pitched in a career (185-2/3 – breaking the record of 161 previously held by Lea), and most games started (29 – breaking the record of 25 previously held by both Lea and Dillon Bonee from 2016-17)

Sophomore first baseman Brady Holloway hit 14 home runs this season (the second most all-time) giving him 21 for his career which set a new Southwest record (breaking the record of 20 previously held by Matt Dangar from 2008-09 and Nick Smith from 2003-04).

Sophomore second baseman Tuane Cope stole 38 bases this season, tying the Southwest single season record held by Saluqis’ Hall of Famer Paul Gagliano in 1976 and Cope’s 58 career steals broke Gagliano’s record of 55 from 1975-76.
