Southwest’s Police Services and Public Safety awarded
second accreditation
Southwest Tennessee Community College’s Department of Police Services and Public Safety
has recently been recognized for its commitment to excellence with the renewal of
its accreditation from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (TLEA).
This marks the department’s second successful accreditation, following the initial
one in 2021, by the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP).
The TLEA is dedicated to enhancing the caliber of law enforcement bodies within Tennessee,
thereby elevating the standard of services delivered to the state’s residents. The
program, instituted by the TACP, advocates for the ongoing enhancement of law enforcement
and emergency communication services by setting forth professional benchmarks for
accountability, management, and policies and procedures.
In May, TLEA Assessors conducted a thorough examination of the Police Services’ documentation
and evidence to evaluate adherence to established standards and best practices. Following
this remote evaluation, assessors performed an on-site inspection on May 28. Subsequently,
on June 5, Southwest’s Executive Director of Police Services and Risk Management,
Ernest A. Greenleaf, Sr., along with the accreditation team, appeared before the TLEA
professional standards committee and upon the committee’s comprehensive review, the
department was deemed compliant and received its second accreditation.
Greenleaf said he takes pride in the dedication of the Police Services team who make
it a daily practice to provide the best services possible to faculty, staff, students
and visitors. “Receiving this accreditation award is a way to ensure that we are traveling
the right path to maintain excellence,” Greenleaf said. “I want to thank my staff
for their hard work. I also wish to thank President Tracy D. Hall and Chief of Administrative
Services and Information Systems, Michael D. Boyd, for their support in providing
the resources needed for our department’s continued success.”
Congratulations to the Police Services and Public Safety team on their well-deserved
accomplishment. Their efforts not only uphold the high standards of law enforcement
but also contribute to the safety and well-being of the Southwest community.
Southwest team members participating in the accreditation included Police Services
and Public Safety Associate Director, John E. Mitchell, Greenleaf, Administrative
Assistant Lisa Brown, and Officers Donald Drewry and Terry Pirtle.
