KUDOS: Ron Wells elected Tennessee Alliance for Continuing Higher Education president

Dr. Anita Ricker, passes the gavel and the presidency of TACHE to Ron Wells

Ron Wells, Southwest Tennessee Community College’s Director of the Millington Center, was elected president of the Tennessee Alliance for Continuing Higher Education (TACHE) last month at its 49th annual conference in Memphis, Tennessee. The theme of the 2017 conference was “All Shook Up”, a reference to Elvis, of course, but also to Tennessee’s initiatives to include workforce development in education at all levels, from elementary to post-secondary. Speakers included Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Chancellor Flora Tydings, TBR Assistant Vice Chancellor of Economic and Community Development Nathan Garrett and the final keynote speaker Rudy Kalis.

TACHE is an association of post-secondary education professionals representing public and private colleges and universities, technical training institutions and other related entities. Members include representatives from faculty, workforce development, administrative departments, distance learning and extended programs and credit and non-credit programs.

TACHE promotes the advancement of continuing education and lifelong learning by providing a forum for professional networking and professional development, sharing of best practices and successful programs and promoting professional collaborative relationships. Many highly successful state-wide programs were initially presented at a TACHE Conference as a best practice and spread across the state. The Industrial Readiness Training (IRT) program, developed at Southwest, was one of those programs.
