Compliance Carnival a hit with faculty, staff and students
Compliance can be fun. No…really. The Equity and Compliance Department proved this when it hosted its first annual Compliance Carnival Oct. 23-26 at the Macon Cove and Union Avenue campuses and the Whitehaven and Maxine A. Smith centers.
Faculty, staff and students participated in games that brought out their inner child and competitive streak while they learned important facts surrounding Title IX, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and more. Participants won prizes and such carnival food favorites as Pronto Pups, roasted turkey legs, cotton candy and funnel cakes by taking small quizzes to display their compliance knowledge. “It was very informative and a great way to increase awareness of compliance issues and our responsibility to enforce them,” Financial Aid Specialist Lesa Halfacre said. The event also featured a popular selfie station and such amusing games as ring toss, 1-on-1 basketball and cornhole.
Equity & Compliance Executive Director Monika Johnson says the purpose of the carnival
was to provide information, education, communication and awareness about several compliance-related
topics and to gauge the knowledge of the community on these issues. The participation exceeded my expectations,
she said. We didn’t know what to expect, but faculty, staff and students turned out in impressive
numbers.
Johnson and her staff look forward to future carnivals. This will definitely be an annual event.
