Governor selects 2018 Southwest graduate to serve on TSAC board
Governor Bill Haslam earlier this month announced his appointees to serve on the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) board of directors and 2018 commencement speaker and graduate Sabrina Washington was among them. Washington will serve a 2-year term as a student member beginning July 1.
She was elated to receive the news. “I am extremely grateful, and honored,” she said. “I love to serve and represent others so being able to do so on a state level is incredible.”
Washington graduated magna cum laude last month with an Associate of Arts in Psychology. Affectionately known as “Ms. Southwest”, she served as Student Government Association vice president, editor-in-chief of the Southwest Source student newspaper, as a student ambassador and as a Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature delegate during her two years at Southwest. She also was an active member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, serving on the board of the Upsilon Delta chapter.
The commission is composed of nine voting members appointed from the general public, each serving six-year terms and representing the Grand Divisions of the State equally; three Constitutional Officers who are ex-officio voting members (Comptroller of the Treasury, State Treasurer, and Secretary of State); two ex-officio student members; and the Executive Director of the State Board of Education, as an ex-officio non-voting member.
Congratulations, Sabrina!
