Lady Saluqis Soccer tops off impressive sophomore season in TCCAA tournament
The Southwest Lady Saluqi’s soccer team rounded out its second season with an impressive 7-8-1 record. Under the direction of Southwest coach Brandon VanCleave, the women scored 25 goals, registered 16 assists, collected 267 shots and attempted 53 corners.
With the season near its end, the women’s team hosted an inaugural Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) soccer tournament at St. George’s Episcopal School in October. Standout player Caitlan Dew (sophomore) led the TCCAA in goals and points this season and was named the association’s Offensive Player of the Year in a vote by the coaches.
Dew scored 11 goals this season, including two goals against Dyersburg State (twice) and Columbia State (with the game-winner in double overtime), and had a total of 23 points.
Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Savage, freshman defender Anna Trotter and freshman midfielder Thaina Aparecida de Paula also were selected first team All-TCCAA. They led the much-improved Southwest women’s soccer team to seven wins this season, regular season conference runner-up and TCCAA tournament runner-up. Savage led the conference with 114 saves and two shutouts and ranked second with a 1.88 goals against average and .786 save percentage.
Congratulations, Lady Saluqis!
