Ron Johnson, Funeral Service Education Department Chair
Ron Johnson is the department chair of Southwest’s new Funeral Service Education program that begins January 2019. Johnson brings extensive experience to the role as a dual licensed funeral director and embalmer for nearly 20 years in Mississippi and Tennessee.
Johnson also is part-owner of Johnson and Scott Mortuary that opened earlier this year in Cleveland, Mississippi, where he serves as funeral director and sole embalmer. Prior to launching Johnson and Scott, Johnson served as funeral director and embalmer for six years with W. S. Brandon Mortuary in Cleveland, and was head embalmer with M.J. Edwards Funeral Home in Memphis.
Johnson holds a Master of Science in natural sciences from Delta State University, a Bachelor of Science in biology from Mississippi Valley State University, and an Associate of Applied Science in funeral service technology from Northwest Mississippi Community College. He is currently working on an MBA in health care administration from Delta State and anticipates graduating in December.
He is a member of the National Honor Society of Secondary Schools, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Sigma Phi Sigma, National Funeral Director and Morticians Association, Mississippi Funeral Directors and Mortician’s Association and Epsilon Nu Delta Mortuary Fraternity.
Johnson is an active volunteer who looks forward to chairing the masonic lodge Sunshine #99 holiday committee that annually distributes more than 500 dinners to those in need during the holiday season.
