Human Resources presents Lunch and Learn Series
by Iliana Ricelli, Associate Vice President for Human Resources
The Office of Human Resources is pleased to begin providing professional development workshops for all employees at Southwest Tennessee Community College.
We will launch a Lunch and Learn Series beginning next month that is designed to help Southwest employees sharpen their skills. Sessions are noon – 12:45 p.m. Tuesdays on the Union campus in Parrish Building, Room 101, and Thursdays at Macon Cove in the Bornblum Library, Room ML245.
Our goal is to continue to foster a positive work environment where employees feel empowered to take advantage of tools and training to advance their skills and reach career goals. Here is a snapshot of the upcoming sessions.
Effective Communication – Write Right
This course is designed to remind learners about the fundamentals of proper grammar when writing. In the time of spellcheck and shorthand texting, some words are misused and abused. This session will help grow your vocabulary and hone your speaking and writing skills.
Civility in the Workplace
In this course, leaders and employees alike learn practical tools for creating civil and respectful work environments. You will discuss how to identify, prevent and respond to workplace incivility—those seemingly insignificant behaviors that are rude, discourteous, or disrespectful, and that have an effect on performance.
Healthy Initiatives
Come learn about the Weight Watchers At Work program, which helps discover new approaches to enjoy food and live life like never before. There is no cost for you to attend. Southwest is interested in offering a program to promote wellness and health solutions. In this session, expect to discuss options for eating healthy and meet others that are on the same path as you. Free Healthy recipes will be available for all participants.
Microaggressions
This course helps to understand microaggressions and implicit bias, and how they can negatively impact the relationships between co-workers, as well as student success in the classroom. Learn how to effectively recognize and combat microaggressions when they occur. Presented in partnership with Equity and Compliance.
Bring your lunch. Beverages will be provided. Stay tuned for updates about dates and campus locations. Seating is limited. RSVP via email at humanresources@southwest.tn.edu. For more information, contact Human Resources Business Partner LaToya Andrews at (901) 333-5367.
